Hometown heroes win Saskatchewan Mixed Provincials championship

Team Meachem from Swift Current won the Saskatchewan Mixed Provincials championship on home ice, March 17-20.

Skipped by Cabri’s Shaun Meachem, the team remained undefeated throughout the weekend and clinched the championship title with a 6-5 win over Langenburg’s Tyler Hartung.

The other three members of the Meachem rink were Kelly Schafer (third), Chris Haichert (second), and Teejay Haichert (lead).

The Swift Current Curling Club hosted the Saskatchewan Mixed Provincials and 14 teams competed at the championship. In addition to the Swift Current team, two other curlers from the southwest played with different teams.

Hodgeville curler Dan Kennedy, a member of the Swift Current Curling Club, played with the team of Eugene Hritzuk (Saskatoon). Elrose curler Krista Ellingson, a member of the Kyle Curling Club, played with the team of Jesse St. John (Brock).
