Swift Current Comp. show well as hosts and as competitors at Sask. Drama Association Region 3 Drama Festival

Swift Current Comprehensive High School (SCCHS) hosted the Saskatchewan Drama Association (SDA) Region 3 Drama Festival, March 31 to April 1.

Four schools participated in the event and five plays were performed. The SCCHS drama program presented two performances at the festival. The other three plays were presented by Leader Composite School, Warman High School and Westcliffe Composite School from Marengo.

Warman High School won the best overall production award and will be performing the play Shuddersome: Tales of Poe at the provincial drama festival in early May. Both schools from the Chinook School Division won awards at the Region 3 Drama Festival.

Leader Composite School Drama Club performed the play Complaint Department and Lemonade. Logan Duchscherer won a Spirit of the Festival Award and a Stage Management Merit Award. Johandre Pretorius received an Acting Award of Merit.

SCCHS Drama Club won various awards for both plays. Below are their results for each production.

SDA Certificate of Merit for Technical Theatre: Costumes – Cassandra Lowe, Jordynn Smuk, Bree Wolstenholme and Chrissa Tordill.

SDA Certificate of Merit for Technical Theatre: Set Design Award and Ensemble Back Stage Award.

SDA Certificate of Merit for Acting, Officials – Jaxson Yates and Reece Pettigrew.

SDA Certificate of Merit for Technical Theatre, Stage Management – Aryn Thibault.

Technical Award for Lighting – Annabelle Murrary.

Acting Award – Jasmine Keck for her role as narrator Eva. 

SDA Best Visual Production Runner-up Award.

List of awards for The Inexplicable Chaos of Mia Gregory:

Spirit of the Festival – Alivia Fraser.

SDA Certificate of Merit for Technical Theatre: Ensemble Back Stage Award.

Technical Award for Assistant Stage Manager – Alivia Fraser.

Mary Ellen Burgess Performance Award to one student exhibiting acting excellence – Mapalo Mushoriwa.

Acting Award – Katie Ens for her role as Mia Gregory.

SDA Best Stage Manager Award to one student exhibiting excellence in stage management – Kaylee Wengel.
