On Thursday, February 9th, 2023, the 13th annual Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation ‘Care from the Heart Day’ Radio-a-thon will run from 7 am to 6 pm. Throughout the day, our six (amazing and generous!) local radio stations – B93.3FM, 106.7 Rock, 94.1CJOC, Wild 95-5, 98.1 2day FM, and KISS 107.7 – chat on-air with doctors and nurses, administrators, donors and front-line staff to share stories of the impact that donations made to the CRH Foundation have on our community. The generosity of our donors is felt throughout the hospital, in every department, on every floor, and in the care of our community’s most vulnerable, supporting world-class programs and patient care right here in Lethbridge.
“Thousands of people walk through the hospital doors every month. Whether it is staff, the public or patients, everyone benefits from your donation; we all deserve to have the very best experience, and with your generous support this is possible,” says Allan Bartolcic, Executive Director of the Foundation.
Care from the Heart Day brings our community together, and every dollar donated from individuals in our community and corporate sponsors alike adds up to a remarkable total. The funds raised in one day help the Chinook Regional Hospital provide outstanding care throughout the year. Since the very first Radio-a-thon thirteen years ago, we can proudly share that over $3,000,000 has been raised.
One of the incredible impacts of these donations that we are thrilled to announce is our newest programs, Schwartz Rounds®, led by Dr. Dionne Walsh. The Schwartz Rounds program offers healthcare workers a regularly scheduled time during their fast-paced day to discuss the social and emotional issues they face in caring for patients and families, to connect with one another, and find respite from the many stressors that challenge the healthcare workforce today.
“I became really interested in how we can create safe spaces in the hospital community, where we can share our heartaches, learn from one another about how to fill our buckets back up, and have compassion for ourselves, our team members, and our patients,” says Dr. Walsh.
Without health workers, there is no healthcare. At the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation, we celebrate and support our healthcare workers efforts with funding for state-of-the art equipment and specialized programs, like Schwartz Rounds. For the 12th year running, we are delighted to have Bob Balog, Honorary Chair, at the helm of the ‘Care from the Heart Day’ Radio-a-thon. “The Balog family, just like yours, has benefited from the exceptional staff and expertise of the Chinook Regional Hospital. Like so many of you, we have seen firsthand the great compassion and wonderful care available here in Lethbridge. I am honoured to be asked to help ensure this level of service in our community will continue.”
