Bassano emergency department to close for overnight hours starting June 1

Posted on 1 June 2022 by Prairie Post

The Bassano Health Centre emergency department (ED) will be temporarily closed from 5 p.m. to 8 a.m. Mondays to Thursdays due to lack of physician coverage beginning June 1 and continuing throughout June, July and August.

The ED will remain open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. The ED will also be open for the entire weekend, including overnights.

The lack of physician availability will also result in the temporary consolidation of Bassano Health Centre’s four acute care beds to the Brooks Health Centre until mid-September.

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is working to ensure local residents continue to have access to the care they need during this time.

Nursing staff will remain on site to provide care for inpatients.

Patients are asked to call 911 if they have a medical emergency.

Residents are reminded to call Health Link at 811, which is available 24/7, for non-emergency health-related questions. Individuals requiring non-emergency medical care are also encouraged to call their family physician.

AHS is grateful for the support of surrounding healthcare centres and medical staff, and thanks the community for its patience and understanding during this time.

Alberta Health Services is the provincial health authority responsible for planning and delivering health supports and services for more than four million adults and children living in Alberta. Its mission is to provide a patient-focused, quality health system that is accessible and sustainable for all Albertans.
