The Swift Currently Broncos announced today that they have acquired 2003-born defenceman Ryan McCleary, a Conditional 2025 6th Round Draft Pick, a Conditional 2027 5th Round Draft Pick, and a 2027 6th Round Draft Pick from the Portland Winterhawks in exchange for 2004-forward Josh Davies, and 2005-born-forward Tyson Yaremko.

McCleary (6’3”/177lbs), a local Swift Current product, spent parts of the last four seasons with the Winterhawks, playing in a total of 147 regular season games, scoring 21 goals, and adding 47 assists for 68 points. He’s also played in 20 playoff games, adding two points.

“We are excited to add Ryan to our group,” said Broncos General Manager Chad Leslie. “Ryan’s progression over the past few years has been impressive and we feel he is poised to have a career year at home.”

In the 2021 NHL Draft, McCleary was drafted in the seventh-round by the Pittsburgh Penguins (194th Overall).

McCleary’s most productive season with the Winterhawks came last year when he notched 31 points in 66 games, good for second on the Winterhawks among defencemen. Prior to his time in Portland, McCleary played U15 and U18 hockey in Swift Current ranging from U15AA with the Broncos, to the U18 AAA Legionnaires.

Now a second-generation Bronco, Ryan’s dad, Trent played for the Broncos between 1988 and 1993 and would go on to play over 300 games in the NHL.

Davies (5’10”/192lbs), an Airdrie, Alta. product, has played parts of the last four seasons with the Broncos, playing in 149 games, scoring 42 goals, and adding 37 assists for 79 points. Davies is also a sixth-round draft pick by the Florida Panthers in the 2022 NHL Draft (186th Overall). Davies played one game for the Charlotte Checkers in the AHL last season.

Yaremko (6’/181lbs), out of Saskatoon, Sask., is a former fourth-round pick in the WHL Draft by the Broncos. He’s played the last two seasons with the Saskatoon Blazers U18 AAA club. In 100 regular season and playoff games, Yaremko tallied 126 points for the Blazers. He also spent one season with the Swift Current Legionnaires in 2020/2021, playing six games.

“We would like to thank Josh and Tyson for their contributions to our organization and we wish them all the best,” said Leslie.
