Swift Current Municipal Detachment deal with a lot of alcohol-sourced complaints during long weekend
The following is a synopsis of calls for service for the dates indicated by the Swift Current RCMP:
JUNE-29
4:04 PM – report of a green Chevrolet Silverado parked in front of the caller’s residence on the 500 block of Central Avenue N advertising a sale with an arrow pointed towards her home. The caller advised she’s now had several people come to her house asking about the sale advertised. Detachment staff were able to speak with the registered owner of the vehicle who said they would go add the correct address to their sale sign.
5:11 PM – report of a male walking on the railing of the 2nd Avenue overpass. Officers attended the location and spoke to the male who had no plans of intentionally harming himself and was trying out his tightrope walking skills.
6:03 PM – report of a male possibly breaching his police ordered conditions. This matter is still under investigation.
8:04 PM – report of a theft from a business on the 900 block of Central Avenue N. This matter is still under investigation.
8:09 PM – 911 call of a hit and run in the parking lot of a business on the 1500 block of South Service Road E involving a semi hitting another semi and leaving the scene. This matter is still under investigation.
8:36 PM – report of a dispute between a landlord and tenant over moving vehicles in order for a parking lot to be cleared. The caller had advised his landlord had come to speak to him about how he was rude to her husband earlier in the day that the caller denied. Nothing criminal had taken place but the caller advised his complaint would be documented.
9:15 PM – 911 call of an assault at a location on the 1700 block of 17th Avenue SE between two male youth. This matter is still under investigation.
9:53 PM – report of a sucidal individual. Officers located the individual at home, confirming they were not a risk to themselves or others.
10:04 PM – report of an intoxicated male at a location on the 1700 block of 17th Avenue SE. Police attended the location and located the male with security, warning he would be arrested if he returned.
10:46 PM – 911 call of an impaired driver leaving an establishment on the 100 block of Central Avenue N in a grey Jeep Compass. Officers made patrols, locating the vehicle and the male driver sleeping in the front seat. The male was arrested and taken to the Detachment for testing. 34 year old Christopher Dixon of Swift Current has been charged with impaired driving under the Criminal Code. Dixon was released from custody with a future court date.
11 :17 PM – report of a the caller’s neighbours dogs barking. Officers attended and could hear the animals but there was no answer at the residence. Police notified the City Bylaw Department of the complaint.
JUNE-30
1:26 AM – report of two suspicious individuals at a business on the 1900 block of Chaplin Street W. The caller advised they were watching a live feed of cameras at the location and could see the two individuals. Officers attended and spoke to the pair who were unloading property into their rental unit.
3:25 AM – officers assisted Saskatchewan Highway Patrol with an impaired driver investigation. A male driver had failed a roadside alcohol screening and was transported to the Detachment for further testing. The male will be charged with impaired driving under the Criminal Code.
6:56 AM – cut up firearm parts were turned into the Detachment for disposal.
10:57 AM – while on patrol, officers issued a written warning to the driver of a blue Honda Civic for holding their cellphone while operating a motor vehicle.
11:18 AM – report of a theft from a business on the 2000 block of North Service Road E. This matter is still under investigation.
11:20 AM – while on patrol, officers issued a ticket to the driver of a black Honda Odyssey for disobeying a stop sign.
11:46 AM – report of a male shoplifting from a business on the 1800 block of Memorial Drive. Police were able to track down the male and recover the stolen property. Police were also able to determine the male was on a court ordered conditional sentence when he committed the offence. 32 year old Steven Poundmaker was arrested and held in police custody to appear in Swift Current Provincial Court on Tuesday July 4, 2023. Poundmaker has been charged with one count of theft under $5000 under the Criminal Code.
11:59 AM – 911 call of a social media scam.
12:01 PM – report of the caller’s driveway being spray painted the night prior on the 400 block of Grey Street E. There are no suspects or witnesses.
12:48 PM – report of a male entering an empty dwelling unit on the 200 block of Begg Street W, taking some property that doesn’t belong to him and posting it for sale online. This matter is still under investigation.
1:22 PM – report of a semi parked on Herbert Street blocking traffic. Police made patrols but did not locate the semi.
2:42 PM – found tools were turned into the Detachment matching property that had been previously reported stolen. This matter is still under investigation.
2:49 PM – report of a possibly impaired driver in a red Ford F150 leaving a business on the 500 block of South Service Road E. Police made patrols but were unable to locate the vehicle.
3:41 PM – report of the caller having his wallet stolen from a business on the 700 block of South Service Road E. Police were able to identify the suspect after reviewing store footage, finding him at a location in Swift Current. The male returned the wallet to the caller. The caller did not wish to have the male charged, wanting to give him a chance to do better. The male was apologetic for his actions.
6:56 PM – while on patrol, officers issued a written warning to the driver of a grey Mazda CX-9 for speeding.
10:47 PM – officers assisted Saskatchewan Highway Patrol with a male driver who had a court ordered driving suspension.
11:19 PM – report of the caller noticing when he was leaving a location on 17th Avenue SE his phone connected to an Apple Airtag and it appeared to be following him. Police advised the caller to try restarting his phone and it likely just
picked up the signal as there were a lot of people at the location. No further calls were received . JULY-01
12:14 AM – report of an alarm at a business on the 1100 block of Central Avenue N. While on route, the alarm was cancelled by a keyholder for the business.
1:09 AM – report of an adult female who was babysitting, had left a residence, leaving the children who were asleep unattended. Police attended the residence and the children were still asleep and not harmed or left alone for very long. Officers proceeded to call the babysitter who told them the children’s mother had stopped responding to messages asking her to come home and she was tired . Police were able to get in touch with the mother who advised the babysitter was supposed to stay at her residence until 8 am but she would return home right away. Officers had lengthy conversations with both the babysitter and mother and the babysitter was given strong advice not to babysit anymore.
3:20 AM – report of a dispute between staff at a dwelling unit on the 1400 block of Battelford Trail and some guests. Police attended and all involved returned to their rooms and would be leaving the location in the morning.
8:22 AM – report of an alarm at a business on the 1100 block of Central Avenue N. Police attended the business and confirmed the alarm to be false after ensuring the building was secure.
10:01 AM – report of a male in a white Dodge Ram almost running over someone’s foot while in the parking lot of a location on the 2000 block of Chaplin Street E. Police spoke with the driver and gave him a verbal warning to be more careful.
1:35 PM – report of a theft from a business on the 1100 block of Central Avenue N. This matter is still under investigation.
2:33 PM – report of a video of a male driving and doing “shots” circulating on social media. Police made patrols locating the vehicle parked with no one inside or around.
4:26 PM – report of a dog left in a grey Honda CR-V while parked at a business on the 1800 block of Memorial Drive. Police attended the location, finding the vehicle with the windows rolled down. The animal did not appear to be in any distress and the owner was given a verbal warning about leaving their dog unattended in a vehicle.
5:44 PM – a male contacted the detachment, upset, saying he was going to remove his son from a “drug house”. Police spoke with the caller advising him not to do anything that would put him in a position to be arrested. The caller understood and was expressing his frustrations about the choices his son had been making.
11:02 PM – report of a male yelling at staff at a commercial dwelling unit on the 1100 block of South Service Road E. Officers attended the location but the male had left prior to their arrival.
11:29 PM – 911 call of the caller’s ex-boyfriend not allowing her and her child to leave his residence. Call takers could hear yelling in the background and the caller advised her ex had been consuming alcohol. Officers attended and confirmed nothing physical had occurred between the two of them and she was able to leave without incident.
JULY-02
1:23 AM – report of some kids trying to break into a location on the 300 block of 6th Avenue NE. Police attended the location, finding the group who had not caused any damage and had not been able to gain entry to the building. All were given verbal warnings by police, no charges were laid in relation to the incident.
2:00 AM – a found cellphone was turned over to police at a location on the 1700 block of 17th Avenue SE. The phone was
placed into the Detachment lost and found.
2:00 AM – while at a location on the 1700 block of 17th Avenue SE police located a male with security being escorted out of the location after assaulting a security officer inside. Police arrested the intoxicated male and held him in police custody until sober. The security officer did not wish to have the male charged.
2:03 AM – while on patrol, officers located a male laying in the grass on 11th Avenue SE. Police were able to speak to the male who was intoxicated, providing him a ride home and leaving him in the care of his sober girlfriend.
2:30 AM – report of an assault at a location on the 1700 block of 17th Avenue SE. Officers attended and the two intoxicated males who had been fighting were arrested and held in police custody until sober. No charges were laid in relation to the incident.
3:06 AM – report of an alarm at a location on the 1100 block of 11th Avenue NE. Officers attended and confirmed the alarm to be false after ensuring the building was secure.
4:31 AM – while on patrol, officers issued a ticket to the driver of a white Ford Taurus for failing to yield at an intersection with a yield sign.
4:43 AM – report of an intoxicated female known to the caller following him home and was now scaring his roommates. Officers attended the residence.The female had initially taken the caller home after she found him sleeping on her front lawn. Police told the female to leave and she returned to her house down the block.
4:53 AM – report of an intoxicated youth at a location on the 1700 block of 17th Avenue SE. Officers along with EMS attended the location. The boy was intoxicated but okay and left in the care of his parents.
10:32 AM – report of a possibly impaired driver in a white GMC truck on the 500 block of North Service Road E. No plate number was able to be obtained by the caller. Officers made patrols but were unable to locate the truck.
1:05 PM – report of a missing person. The caller advised his brother had been in Swift Current the night prior and had briefly called his parents intoxicated and had not been heard from since. The sibling later returned home to his residence in Gull Lake, SK.
1 :35 PM – report of a theft from a location on the 1700 block of 17th Avenue SE. The caller was able to provide a plate number for the suspect and when police contacted the registered owner she advised she would return the property. The caller did not wish to have any charges laid and only to have the property returned.
4:37 PM – report of a male known to the caller, erratically driving a motorcycle on 2nd Avenue NE. Officers made patrols, unable to locate the motorcyclist but were able to later speak with him on the phone and give him a verbal warning about his driving.
6:00 PM – report of the caller’s ex-girlfriend not returning his vehicle after lending it to her the day prior. While call takers were explaining to the caller the matter was civil, he began swearing and then hung up.
6:24 PM – report of an intoxicated male at a business on the 900 block of Central Avenue N leaving in a grey Dodge Ram. Police made patrols, locating the vehicle and conducting a traffic stop. During the stop the male failed a roadside alcohol screening test and was arrested and transported back to the Detachment for further testing. The male was released from custody with a future court date and will be charged with impaired driving under the Criminal Code.
8:21 PM – report of a suspicious interaction at a location on the 2200 block of Woodrow Lloyd Place. This matter is still under investigation.
