Once again Royal Canadian Legion Branch 56 will be holding its annual Beef Raffle where the top prize is a half beef generously donated to the Legion by Comrades Scott and Carolyn Lamb, with the cutting and wrapping donated by Rawhide Supplements.

In addition to the First Prize half beef, also donated as prizes is a butcher block, created by Comrade Jim Appleyard and a free year’s membership to our branch. Tickets will go on sale 1st of August 2023 and will cost just $10.00 each, with only 1000 tickets sold.

Tickets will be available at the Branch 56 Office and Lounge. In addition, ticket books will be available at select businesses and from the many Legionaries of our branch. The draw for the said prizes will take place on the 19th of November 2023.

All the proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards funding various Legion initiatives in our community as well as helping complete repairs to our Branch so that we can continue to serve the Swift Current and area community the best we can. RCL Branch 56 would like to thank all the donors of the prizes, we very much appreciate it and all those who will support the Legion by purchasing a ticket for the raffle.

Branch #56 was originally formed in 1915 as a branch of the Army & Navy Veterans Association. This was later absorbed in 1917 by the newly formed Great War Veterans Association (GWVA). In February 1926 when the GWVA and some other veterans’ organizations banded together, it became the Canadian Legion of the British Empire Service League (BESL). Saskatchewan Command became the first command with the Regina Branch #001 becoming the very first branch to receive its charter (October 1926) from the new Legion. Other branches, such as Branch #56, were already absorbed with their existing charters. In 1960, Royal assent was given by the Queen and the name was changed to “the Royal Canadian Legion.
