Great Plains College was thrilled to welcome a sold-out crowd back into the building for the 10th annual Carhartts & Caviar event, which raised over $35,000 for the Welding program and scholarship fund.

From indoor and outdoor furniture pieces to metal wall art, the college’s Welding students, their instructor, alumni and local businesses came together to create 11 unique pieces that were auctioned off at the March 10 event.

“This event has become an important part of the Welding program; it gives students a unique chance to practice their skills and work in teams to build custom pieces that they can showcase to family, friends and future employers,” said Jared McKenzie, Welding instructor at Great Plains College. “We were so happy to be able to welcome a full-house back in person to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Carhartts & Caviar.”

The custom river table created by instructor Jared McKenzie was the top selling piece of the evening, going for $4,700. Close seconds were the “Moose in Charge” wall art and mountain getaway package from DLO Metal Works (metal art creation) and Mercator Financial (vacation package) for $3,900, a custom office desk built by Kade McIntosh at Sandhills Welding for $2,800 and the 3D dinosaur created by Riley Hughes that sold for $2,700. In total, the live auction raised $23,650.

“An event like this doesn’t survive for 10 years without unwavering support from sponsors and the community. We can’t thank everyone enough for continuing to support the college, our Welding program and scholarship fund year-after-year,” said Bryce Martin, donor services coordinator. “We hope everyone who attended enjoyed a great evening of food, drink and metal art.”

Great Plains College would like to again thank all of the sponsors that made this year’s event possible, including the presenting sponsor S3 Group Ltd., and this year’s major sponsors: the City of Swift Current, Plewis Automotive Group, Mercator Financial, Lime Zero Mechanical and Anderson & Company.
