Lethbridge Legal Guidance employee sustains life-threatening injuries in hostage-taking (Thursday evening update)

Charges pending in connection with hostage incident

Lethbridge Police continue to investigate an incident where a 54-year-old woman sustained life-threatening injuries after she was taken hostage at a law office earlier this afternoon.

The victim remains in hospital in serious but stable condition.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. police responded to a report of an armed female inside Lethbridge Legal Guidance along the 400 block of 5 Street South. A female employee was taken hostage and sustained life-threatening injuries. At approximately 3 p.m. members of the Critical Incident Team entered the building and the 40-year-old subject was taken into custody.

Police are no longer on scene but the investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.

No further information will be released tonight.
