I.C.Y.M.I.: Recreational pursuits abound in Bragg Creek

Posted on 18 June 2024 by Great West Media

The townsite boasts an eclectic collection of restaurants, shops and amenities that are sure to satisfy the wants of any visitor, while the surrounding area offers recreational opportunities for people of all fitness levels.

Bragg Creek is also the gateway to Kananaskis Country. From the gentle rolling foothills to the stunning mountain peaks, this 4,000 square-mile recreation area has something for every visitor.

A visitors information centre, just west of Bragg Creek along Highway 66, offers a plethora of information, including must-visit camping, picnic and hiking trails in the area. Further along Highway 66 is the breathtaking Elbow Falls, the stunning views of jutting rocks and forests of pine and spruce attracting visitors throughout the year.

The area is a magnet for mountain bikers as the Bragg Creek Trails Association maintains 166 kilometers of multi-use trails in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. The terrain is mostly gentle and rolling and the forest is a mix of aspen and evergreens.

Check out these places on your visit to Bragg Creek:

• Moose Mountain Horseback Adventures just south of town offers trail rides in an area where such classics as Brokeback Mountain and Unforgiven were filmed. M&M Adventures also offers a variety of riding experiences for everyone from greenhorns to those who can comfortably sit tall in the saddle.

• Golfers can play a round at Wintergreen Golf and Country Club, a course where mountain streams intersect with tree-lined fairways, or at Redwood Meadows Golf and Country Club, which is located in a completely natural setting along the Elbow River.
