Medicine Hat JazzFest Kicks off Today.
MEDICINE HAT, Alberta (May 25 2024) The Medicine Hat JazzFest is celebrating its 28th
anniversary from, June 25 to 30, 2024.
The Medicine Hat JazzFest kicks off today with the first events in a week packed with worldclass
music.
Free and ticketed events, a reduced pass price and a new youth ticket that lets anyone 25 years
and younger get into any show for $20, makes this the most accessible JazzFest yet!
Events kick off today at 2:00 PM with a free drum circle workshop on the front lawn of the
Esplanade. Sara Neufeld with Ray of Sun Drum Circles gives everyone a chance to play a drum
and learn some basic rhythms. Drums are provided or bring your own.
Then at 7:00 PM, husband and wife duo, Elliana Cuevas and Jeremy Ledetter bring their Latin
American music with a focus on Venezuelan folkloric repertoire to the terrace of the Esplanade.
(Lobby as backup venue.) Then, filling out the double bill, Canadian born drummer Anthony
Fung takes the stage with his quartet featuring New York City iconic saxophonist, Dayna
Stephens for some contemporary jazz.
Today through Friday feature this same schedule, with a 2:00 PM free workshop on the
Esplanade front lawn and a 7:00 PM double bill on the terrace with the lobby as back-up.
Saturday features a 2:00 PM open jam on the Esplanade front lawn followed by the signature
concert at the Super T Aviation Hangar at 5:00 PM with local favorites The Hip Katz and
Calgary’s Sabor A Cuba Latin Band. Then at 9:00 PM, Vancouver’s very hip Mary Ancheta
brings her modern take on jazz and electro-funk to the terrace of the Esplanade with the main
theatre stage as back-up.
JazzFest 2024 wraps up Sunday, June 30 with Alberta jazz icons, PJ Perry and Al Muirhead
bringing their straight-ahead swinging jazz to the terrace of the Esplanade at 7:00 PM. (Lobby as
back-up.)
