On May 18, RCMP officers of the Southern Alberta District Crime Reduction Unit (SAD CRU), in a joint effort with Brooks RCMP, executed a search warrant at a home in Duchess after a 3 week long investigation. Also assisting was the Southern Alberta District RCMP Emergency Response Team and Auto Theft Unit.
RCMP seized 500 grams of cocaine, a number of air soft firearms, as well as items commonly associated for use in the trafficking of illicit drugs.
Kyle Ivan Potts (37), a resident of Duchess, has been charged with:
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
• Fail to comply with a release order
• Possession contrary to prohibition order
Jak Thomas Burchell (33), a resident of Brooks, Alta., has been charged with:
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking cocaine
• Fail to comply with a release order
After a Judicial Interim Release Hearing, Potts and Burchell were both remanded into custody. They will be appearing in Alberta Court of Justice in Medicine Hat on May 24.
This is a significant drug seizure for the city of Brooks and a major disruption of drug trafficking in the community.
