Lethbridge Police have charged two men following a short term drug trafficking investigation.

Earlier this week police initiated an investigation after observing a vehicle and two male occupants engaged in activity consistent with drug trafficking. On Feb. 9, 2023 a targeted traffic stop was initiated in the area of Aquitania Boulevard and two men were arrested.  A search warrant was subsequently executed at a west side residence and two males and a female were located inside and arrested without incident. In total, quantities of cocaine, fentanyl, methamphetamine, narcotic pills and illegal cannabis with a combined estimated value over $20,000 along with a loaded hand gun, $4,000 cash proceeds of crime and a Mercedes Benz were seized.

The investigation determined the individuals, who do not reside in Lethbridge, attended the city to engage in drug trafficking.

Oromena Emmanuel Urefe, 20, of Surrey, B.C. is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime and unlawfully possessing cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Aaron Etchuko Bessong, 18, of Fort McMurray, is charged with three counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, possession of the proceeds of crime and unlawfully possessing cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.

Following Judicial Interim Releasing hearings Urefe and Bessong were released from custody by a Justice of the Peace. Both are scheduled to appear in court March 3.

The three other subjects were released without charges. Investigation is ongoing.
