On Dec. 19, 2021 at 9:38 a.m., Brooks RCMP responded to a break and enter in progress in the area of Fraser Avenue W and 2 Street W in Brooks.
Upon arrival at the scene the suspects who had attempted to gain entry to the business had fled. CCTV footage identified a suspect vehicle.
Shortly thereafter, Brooks RCMP located the suspect vehicle in the area of 2 Street W and Upland Boulevard W. A traffic stop was initiated. The investigation determined that the three vehicle occupants were involved in the break and enter and subsequently were arrested.
The arrests led to a discovery that the subjects had also committed an additional break and enter to another business in the area of Cassils Road W and 2 Street W in Brooks earlier that day.
The three individual’s have been charged with offences relating to these two break and enters.
Kevin Sanford (46), Donald Perini (46) and James Shaw (43) have been jointly charged with:
· Break and enter with intent (x2)
· Mischief under $5000 (x 2)
· Possession of stolen property over $5000
· Possession of stolen property under $5000
· Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose
· Unauthorized possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon
· Possess break-in instruments
· Theft under $5000 (x 2)
Sanford and Perini were additionally charged with resist/obstruct peace officer.
A Canada-wide warrant was also executed on Sanford for violating his statutory release conditions.
After a judicial hearing, Sanford did not speak to bail and was remanded to appear in Brooks Provincial Court on Wednesday Dec. 22, 2021.
Perini and Shaw were released from custody on their promise to pay $1250 each and will next be appearing on Jan. 12, 2022 in Brooks Provincial Court
As these matters are before the courts, no further details can be provided.
