Residents and drivers in the area may see a large flame being emitted from the 40-foot flare stack temporarily attached to SaskEnergy’s infrastructure at the site.
During this process, a portion of the gas line will be isolated from the system, and natural gas will be removed from the line in a controlled burn called a flare. Flaring is an industry standard practice that reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 85 per cent compared to venting natural gas into the atmosphere.
The flare is necessary to safely remove natural gas from SaskEnergy’s infrastructure prior to conducting planned maintenance on the natural gas system in the area. Scheduled maintenance on our facilities and infrastructure supports the safe and reliable year-round delivery of natural gas to customers across Saskatchewan.
The area around the flare will be supervised to ensure public safety. Residential natural gas service in the area will not be affected. SaskEnergy has notified the RM of Happyland and the Leader Fire Department about this upcoming event.
