Invasive Koi fish released into Junction Reservoir near Maple Creek

On Saturday May 29th Conservation Officers in Maple Creek were made aware of an invasive species that had been released into Junction reservoir North of Maple Creek.
A video was provided to Maple Creek Conservation officers showing the invasive fish species swimming around in Junction reservoir. The fish was described by the complainant as being a “Koi” fish, this has not been confirmed.
It is believed that the Fish was released into the reservoir sometime in the month of May 2021. Introduction of nonnative species into Saskatchewan waterways can carry diseases and have a negative impact on the natural ecosystem. Not only is it a threat to the environment and the naturally occurring fish species in this waterbody, it is a violation that holds significant penalties.
