Please find attached the Cattle Market Update based on the week ending September 1. Some highlights from the report include:
- The volume of Saskatchewan feeder cattle sold at auction increased last week with Canfax reporting 6,288 head sold over the week ending September 1, compared to the 2,730 head marketed the previous week.
- Average feeder steer prices ranged from $460.00 per cwt for the 400-500lb weight category to $303.00 per cwt for the 900+lb weight category this week.
- Weekly prices for Saskatchewan’s feeder heifers ranged from $387.33 per cwt for the 400-500lb weight category to $295.06 per cwt for the 800+lb weight category.
- The price for Alberta fed steers averaged $231.76 per cwt for the week ending September 1. A year ago, the fed cattle price for Alberta fed steers averaged $180.43 per cwt for the same week.
- Prices of live, non-fed cattle in Alberta reported on September 1 were down compared to August 25. The price of D2 slaughter cows decreased on average $1.49 per cwt from the week prior to average $147.93 per cwt. The price of D3 slaughter cows was down just $0.49 per cwt over the prior week, ending the week at an average of $132.43 per cwt.
