Swift Current resident Shaun Hanna is the recipient of the 2022 Kiwanis Western Canada Citizen of the Year award.
The award presentation took place at the Living Sky Casino Event Centre in Swift Current during the 2022 Kiwanis Western Canada District Convention, which was hosted by the Kiwanis Club of Swift Current, Aug. 12-14.
The Citizen of the Year award is presented to a non-Kiwanian who has made a significant impact on their community, and the recipient is selected by the convention host club. Hanna is a local entrepreneur and restaurant owner who has been contributing to the community as an active volunteer in various roles. He has been a board member of Southwest Youth Emergency Shelter Inc. since 2016 and the board chair since 2018.
The non-profit organization was able to secure provincial funding under his leadership for the operation of the Dorie’s House Treatment Centre.
This eight-bed facility offers an in-patient treatment program with six beds for youth ages 12-18 who struggle with substance misuse and at least two beds are available for homeless teens.
Hanna is a board member and chair of Southwest Saskatchewan Pride and he is also the past chair on the board of directors of the Swift Current & District Chamber of Commerce.
