Statement from Chinook School Division regarding Stewart Valley School Fire

Posted on 26 August 2022 by Prairie Post

There was a major fire at Stewart Valley School today and unfortunately, due to the extensive damage, the building will not be functioning for the upcoming school year. Thankfully, nobody was in the building at the time and the fire was contained to the school. Chinook School Division would like to thank the firefighters who responded quickly and all of the community members and groups who assisted with extinguishing and controlling the fire.

This is a devastating and traumatic loss for our Stewart Valley School community. Chinook will be providing counselling and supports in the community for staff, students and school families. The division’s Emergency Management Plan has been implemented and we are currently working on an operational plan for the upcoming school year. We will be meeting with staff and school families as soon as possible. Our thoughts are with the community of Stewart Valley, and everyone connected to the school and the memories it holds.
