The Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation & Swift Current Emergency Services have announced the renamed Darren McClelland Memorial Charity Golf Classic. The Memorial Classic will be held on June 3, at the Elmwood Golf Course to honour the late Fire Chief Darren McClelland. Proceeds will be split between the Dr. Noble Irwin Foundation, Swift Current Fire Department, and Swift Current EMS to support healthcare and emergency services in the Southwest.

“The Foundation has been partnering with the Swift Current Emergency Services for the past 16 years to host an annual Charity Golf Tournament. Moving forward we have decided to honour the late Fire Chief Darren McClelland by holding the tournament in his namesake,” says Jim Dekowny Executive Director of the Dr. Noble Irwin Regional Healthcare Foundation. “Darren meant a lot to the community, and we are proud to carry on his legacy for many years to come,” added Dekowny.

With the blessing of the McClelland family, we are honoured to dedicate this annual tournament to the man who committed his life to serving his community.

“Darren played in this tournament for years and was passionate about helping and serving his community. Having this tournament in his honour will carry on his legacy of giving back to the Emergency and Healthcare services he dedicated his life to,” said Nicole McClelland.

Darren first served on the Swift Current EMS before moving to the Swift Current Fire Department where he served for over 22 years as a Fire Fighter, Deputy Chief and Chief.

“Darren has a special place in his heart for the Saskatchewan Professional Fire Fighters Burn Fund Association. Knowing that part of the proceeds from this tournament go to the burn fund is why he marked this day on his calendar every year,” says Kent Silbernagel Fire Capitan of C Platoon at the Swift Current Fire Department. “Darren had a huge impact on us all, both in the Fire Service and the community of Swift Current, He would be honoured to know that this Golf Tournament has been re-named after him,” added Silbernagel.

The Classic is open to 144 golfers in teams of four. Registration is $150 per golfer and includes cart rental, supper, and complimentary items. Registration opens on April 15, 2022.
