Swift Current athletes dominate Ponteix badminton tourney

The Swift Current Composite High School badminton team attended the senior badminton tournament in Ponteix on Saturday, March 11.


The results were:
• Boys’ singles — Sim Singh (Grade 12) finished first in his pool with a 5-0 record. In the final he played the first-place finisher from Pool B. He lost in three to Val Marie 15-21, 21-18 and 4-21. He was awarded the silver medal in boys; singles.
• Girls’ singles — Jessica Warren (Grade 11) finished the girls’ singles pool with a 4-1 record with wins over Eastend 1, Eastend 2, Frontier and Gravelbourg. The pool ended with a three-way tie for first place between Ponteix, Frontier and SCCHS. Warren finished in third place.
• Boys’ doubles — Wyatt Weibe (Grade 12) and Mason Smeby (Grade 11) finished the boys’ doubles pool with a 5-0 record with wins over Gravelbourg, Val Marie and three Ponteix teams. They were awarded the gold medal in boys’ doubles.
• Girls’ doubles — Lara New (Grade 10) and Justine Bennett (Grade 10) finished the girls’ doubles pool with a 3-0 record with wins over Eastend, Gravelbourg and Frontier. They were awarded the gold medal in girls’ doubles.
• Mixed doubles — Monica Torales (Grade 10) and Grady Rogers (Grade 10) finished the mixed doubles pool with a record of 2-3 with wins over Ponteix 2 and Val Marie.
