Facing the Calgary Mustangs on the road for the second straight night, the Brooks Bandits (49-5-4) scored 11 consecutive goals en route to an 11-1 win at the Father David Bauer Arena on Wednesday night.

With the win, the Bandits tied last year’s team for the second-most wins in franchise history with their 49th, behind only the 53 wins of the 2012-13 RBC Cup-winning team.

A shorthanded breakaway goal by Parker Foo (Edmonton, AB) opened the scoring just 3:24 into the game. An Oliver Chau (Oakville, ON) centering pass deflected off of a Mustang’s skate and past goalie Bailey Brkin to double the Brooks lead at 8:33. Then, Conner Jean fired a shot in from the slot to make it 3-0 with just under 5 minutes left in the opening frame.

The Bandits added six more goals in the second; two Joe O’Connor (Hamden, CT) goals bookended Conner Jean’s second of the night, on the power play at 6:05. Josh McKechney (Calgary, AB) tapped in a rebound goal at 11:32 to make it 7-0, and less than a minute later an Orca Wiesblatt (Calgary, AB) shot from the high slot ricocheted off another Mustang skate and into the net for an 8-0 lead.

With just over three minutes left in the period, Ty Mappin (Big Valley, AB) was stopped on a breakaway, but recollected the puck and passed it across the slot to Chau for a backdoor tap in goal and his second of the game.

In the third, Jean completed his hat trick with a power play goal at 3:06, before Foo got his second of the night at 7:35 on a shot from the right circle. Just 62 seconds later, the Mustangs broke the shutout bid for Alex Horawski (Toronto, ON) as Brady Pupp cut out in front from behind the net and fired a high shot past the Bandit goalie; but it would be the only blemish on his night as he stopped 14 of 15 shots for his thirteenth win of the season.

The Bandits next return home for consecutive home games on Friday and Saturday nights against the Camrose Kodiaks at the Centennial Regional Arena. Friday night will feature a pre-game team awards ceremony, while Saturday will feature a pre-game AJHL awards ceremony as the league Most Valuable Player, Outstanding Defenceman, and Rookie of the Year awards are presented.

Puck drop for both game is at 7:00 PM with tickets available online at tickets.brooksbandits.ca.
