For the past seven years, residents of the southwest have been able to provide valuable support to the SunDogs athletics program at Great Plains College through supporting the exciting Auction Extravaganza, which takes place this year on May 3.

Volunteers strengthen and make local communities vibrant. The Cypress Health Region is indebted to the many volunteers that play an important role in daily activities and is utilizing National Volunteer Week (April 21-27) to say a formal thank-you.
 

 Brand new Team Saskatchewan had their first roller derby bout against the Alberta All-Stars in Moose Jaw on April 20, and although the team was unable to pull off a win, local derby player Stephanie St. Cyr (Jinger Vitis) is feeling good about her own performance.

The 2009 Professional Bull Riders (PBR) world champion Kody Lostroh is looking forward to more than just a brief stopover in Swift Current on May 25, when he is scheduled to participate in his first bull riding event in that city.

The large amount of snow that was cleared off streets since the start of this year has played havoc with the City of Swift Current's snow removal budget for 2013.

The City of Swift Current has appointed its first ever director of planning and development to focus on the future growth of the community.

With more than double the kids attending the Discover The Farm event on April 19 compared to last year's event, Swift Current Ag & Ex is already looking at expanding again for next year.

The Cypress Regional Hospital officially opened the doors of its new simulation training centre on April 19. It will provide a massive enhancement to assisting with the training of physicians, nursing staff, emergency medical service staff, and other health providers.

The Swift Current SPCA is celebrating its 40th year of animal care with a reduced cat adoption fee.
