It is a bit of an unpleasant topic, but it is an important one.

Federal Agriculture and Agri-Food Minister Lawrence MacAulay and Saskatchewan Agriculture Minister Lyle Stewart announced details of the 2017 Crop Insurance Program Feb. 23.  

Alberta wheat farmers who paid the Alberta Wheat Commission (AWC) check-off and did not request a refund are eligible to receive a 20 percent tax credit under the Scientific Research & Experimental Development (SR&ED) program for their investment in AWC-funded wheat research. For example, farmers who paid $100 in check-off to AWC in 2016 would earn $20 in tax credit.

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada released the 2017 Canadian Agricultural Outlook on Feb. 17.

The Water Security Agency (WSA) has issued the largest single agricultural drainage approval in the province’s history.
