The Evans 7’s Swift Current High School Rugby Team started our season early March and will continue to early June.

We have been practicing up until our first trip to Regina on May 7, where we played three rugby games against Notre Dame, Thom Collegiate and the Suns.
Bailey Wilson scored the first try of the season against Notre Dame right off kick-off, but we fell short with a loss of 14-28.  We lost our second game against Thom 5-15 but came out strong in our final game vs the Suns with our first win of 27-22.
In addition to Wilson’s try, Allison Wall and Abby Murray also had tries of their own that led us to victory along with coming together and playing as a team in our final game.
The other coaches and referees from Regina were really impressed with how the girls performed and by how much they have grown as rugby players since their first year in 2017.
We believe the level of competitiveness that the girls bring this year will make for a fun and exciting rugby season. Rugby has always been a ‘new’ sport to Swift Current but hopefully this can be a turning point to bringing it back permanently. We have three more trips to Regina in May for league games and are hoping to continue playing like we did last Monday.
Lisa Campbell and Kelsey Beisel are the head coaches of the Evans 7’s Swift Current High School Rugby Team.
