The Swift Current Broncos top line continued wreaking havoc across the WHL as Tyler Steenbergen scored four goals along with line mates Glenn Gawdin and Aleksi Heponiemi recording four points each in a 6-4 victory over the Lethbridge Hurricanes on Friday night.

Sahvan Khaira ripped in a perfectly placed shot from the high slot to give the Broncos a 1-0 nod on a delayed penalty call against Lethbridge.

The Hurricanes tied it up 54 seconds later on a bit of a strange play. Ryan Vandervlis took a shot that missed the net but the puck bounced off the back boards and Jordy Bellerive potted it in the Broncos cage before Logan Flodell could reset himself.

Steenbergen roofed one by the glove hand of Hurricanes goaltender Stuart Skinner from the left faceoff dot to give Swift Current the lead back 2-1. Shots on goal were 8-6 in favour of Lethbridge through one period of play.

Aleksi Heponiemi scored his sixth of the season after attempting a quick cross ice pass on a Broncos man advantage, but the puck deflected off the Hurricanes rear guard and by Stuart Skinner, giving Swift Current a 3-1 lead 4:25 into the second period.

Steenbergen finished off a nice three-on-two rush play with line mates Heponiemi and Gawdin to make it a 4-1 game a few minutes later.

The Hurricanes capitalized on a power play chance on their own as Dylan Cozens found himself alone on a breakaway and went glove high on Flodell to cut the deficit 4-2.

However, Steenbergen notched his third of the night to seal his third hat trick of the WHL season on another Broncos power play with 36 seconds left in the frame.

A frantic scramble in front of the Broncos net resulted in a goal for the Canes' Zane Franklin halfway through the third but Steenbergen made sure no Lethbridge comeback was in the works. The Sylvan Lake, AB product recorded his fourth goal of the night from the right faceoff dot to double up the Broncos lead 6-3.

The Swift Current Broncos went on to become victorious in this one by a final score of 6-4 and remain undefeated away from home, improving that mark to 6-0-0-0.

Gawdin displayed tremendous playmaking in this one, finishing the night with four assists on the score sheet while Khaira completed the Gordie Howe hat trick with a goal, an assist and a fight.

Shots on goal were 35-25 in favour of Lethbridge. Both teams executed on their power play chances as the Broncos went 2/2 while Lethbridge wrapped up the evening 2/3 on the man advantage.

Swift Current completes their mini two-game trip on Saturday night when they meet the Kootenay ICE at Western Financial Place. Puck drop is at 7:00pm CT.
