A southwest Saskatchewan athlete won two gold medals and a bronze medal at the 2017 North American Indigenous Games (NAIG).

Swift Current Minor Baseball and the Midget AA Swift Current 57's hosted the 2017 Midget AA Tier 1 provincial baseball championships, July 21-23. Eight teams competed for the provincial title.

The Swift Current ACT/UCT Stingrays Summer Swim Club hosted swimmers from across the province at the club's swim meet, July 22. A total of 162 athletes from 14 teams competed at the event. 

Brooks Bandits defenceman Cale Makar (Calgary) has made history, after being selected fourth overall by the Colorado Avalanche at the 2017 National Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Saskatchewan High Schools Athletic Association (SHSAA) held its AGM in Humboldt June 21-23. 

Swift Current Broncos forward Aleksi Heponiemi was selected in the second round, 40th overall by the Florida Panthers at the 2017 NHL Draft in Chicago, Illinois on June 24.
