Party switchers should sit as independents

I basically agree with  letters that all UCP members have an obligation to resign.
If they don’t resign they must sit as independents until the next election, thus not representing a party.
This applies to all MLAs and MPs who switch (quit) their party. They should not be able to jump to another party, but must also sit as independents.
Regrettably most of us vote for a party (not a person). When they jump they are betraying all who voted for them.
Severance pay: Is it right we (taxpayers) pay them to quit and also must pay for byelections, while letting down those who voted for them?
Severance pay should be reviewed as many are pretty hefty.
