The City of Swift Current wishes to advise the public that the Swift Current RCMP and SGI Vehicle Standards & Inspection will be jointly conducting vehicle inspections of local taxis as part of a province-wide program.

The inspections, which have taken place in several other cities across the province to date, are designed to ensure commercial vehicles transporting passengers meet the standards set out by the Vehicle Equipment Regulations of Saskatchewan. The City of Swift Current’s Bylaw Compliance Department assisted SGI with the arrangements for today’s inspections.

“We are supportive of SGI’s efforts to ensure the taxis in our city are safe for the public,” said Mayor Denis Perrault. “Ultimately, this will help our local taxi companies represent to the community that their vehicles are in safe, working order. Safety is our number one priority, so we’re really thankful that SGI is providing this service to Swift Current.”

Vehicles that fail to meet the standards of the Vehicle Equipment Regulations of Saskatchewan, upon inspection, will lose their Permit to Operate until such a time as the vehicle passes re-inspection.

The City would like to thank Swift Current’s taxi companies for participating in this program.
