Crowds at Frontier Days 2013 increase over 2012

With this year’s Frontier Days celebrating the event’s 75th anniversary in Swift Current, more than 27,000 people came through the gates to check out what the celebration had to offer. Perfect weather and four nights of entertainment helped make June 27-30 an exciting weekend for people all across the southwest.

Councillors approved the annual contract for asphalt and concrete improvements to Swift Current streets and sidewalks at a regular council meeting July 8, but also expressed concern the current budget is not enough to keep up with repair work.

Swift Current Frontier Days was a success according to organizers due to everyone who came out to participate and those who volunteered their time. In a press release/open letter, the Swift Current Ag & Ex board expressed gratitude:

GED soon to be offered by GPC

Great Plains College has become the first regional college in Saskatchewan and the third post-secondary institution anywhere in Canada to offer General Educational Development (GED) testing on the computer.

Elmwood Golf Club's Denise Wilson continued her strong play by recording a final round 84 to win the Senior Women’s Championship today by five strokes over Warman’s Tammy Bezaire.

Recently, Swift Current Comprehensive High School teacher Christopher Garner’s innovative and interactive teaching approach earned him a spot as one of 25 finalists for the 2013 Governor General’s History Awards for Excellence in Teaching.
