The 4th annual Southwest Run for Shelter took place in Swift Current, June 9. The 31 participants had a choice of running a full or half marathon, or otherwise shorter distances of five and 10 kilometres.

The event is organized by the Southwest Youth Emergency Shelter (YES) and raised about $4,000.
All proceeds will make a difference to achieve the goal to re-open Dorie's House, an emergency shelter for homeless youth.
Dorie’s House was open for eight months during 2017 as a pilot project to highlight the need for such a service in southwest Saskatchewan.
The doors of the eight-bed facility had to be closed due to lack of funding and so far the efforts to secure provincial funding have been unsuccessful. The 2nd annual Dorie’s House charity golf tournament will take place at Elmwood golf course, Sept. 7.
It will have a Texas scramble format with a shotgun start. To register, contact the Elmwood pro shop at (306) 778-4653 or Charmaine Westbury at (306) 773-8400 or (306) 750-8996.
