The East Side Church of God’s staff, board members, and congregants marked the official beginning of a new capital construction project at a sod turning ceremony on May 6.

Once complete the expansion, being constructed to the east of the existing facility, will add nearly 10,000 square feet of interior space with a focus on children’s and youth ministry. Renovations are also planned for the existing facility, resulting in a new administration area and open-concept foyer.
The $2.6 million project is one of three elements of the Church’s recent ‘Daring Faith’ campaign; funds  are also being designated towards ministry expansion through the addition of new pastoral staff and global missions via partnerships that include the Haiti Friendship Centre School, bringing the gospel to an unreached people group in the southeast Asian country of Laos, and supporting local congregants in their global engagement.
“Our church and congregation is deeply rooted in sacrificial giving. The funds being raised to support our capital and mission-based projects are given to transform our community and world,” commented  Pastor Kevin Snyder. “I believe God is calling us as a church to bold steps of faith and that He wants us  to lean on him like never before. This project is reflective of this belief and we are excited to see God continue to work in our lives and our communities.”
The addition to the church will include a dedicated youth space, seven new Sunday school classrooms with a central gathering area for children’s ministry, and a rented space for the Community Cooperative Playschool.
To date, tenders to complete the project have been awarded to Wallace Construction, Swift Plumbing and Heating, Melhoff Electric, and Viking Fire Protection. It is anticipated that the addition and renovations will be complete by June 2019.
The currently facility was constructed in 1990 with an addition completed in 1997. Prior to its current  location the church was located on Winnie Street (1976-1990) and 9th Ave. N.W. (1956-1976). The East Side Church of God also owns The Center youth facility (2010) in downtown Swift Current.
“Now glory to God! By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.” Ephesians 3: 20 (NLT)
