Damage goes deeper than the ‘physical’

The Badlands Baseball Academy in Oyen is starting to find its stride when it comes to the baseball program with a fully-prescribed roster for the upcoming school year.

The South East Alberta Watershed Alliance (SEAWA) has received provincial government funding to be able to undertake a two-year riparian restoration project and officials are looking for landowners to take part.

Although there was no 4-H multi-club in Bindloss this year — the first time in 40 years there has been no club — a celebration of 4-H is still set to take place July 22.

Officials in Val Marie and Grasslands National Park (GNP) are gearing up for a big celebration the end of July in honour of Canada’s 150th anniversary and inviting home-grown hockey legend Bryan Trottier to be part of the events.

For more than 20 years the Oyen Otters Swim Club has been helping youth stay active, improve their swim skills and excel competitively if they so choose.

The pages on the calendar seem to be flying by faster and faster each year. It’s already almost July, half the year is over, and milestones have been marked this past week with the final days of secondary school completed, the arrival of Frontier Days in Swift Current — a sure mark of summer — and now Canada Day soon to be come and gone just one short day from the writing of this editorial.

Hanna’s Jesse Williams is looking forward to an exciting summer exploring all of the history and hidden gems her area has to offer as one of 17 ambassadors for the Canadian Badlands Tourism association.

Although residents of Oyen and area celebrated Canada Day on July 1 as usual, there will be an extra special week of activities in the community to commemorate the country’s 150th anniversary.
