Fatal collision between semi truck and pickup truck near bridge on Highway 36/Range Road 160

Brooks RCMP were on scene of a fatal collision resulting in Highway 36 near Range Road 160 being impassable early June 9.

At approximately 4:30 am, Brooks RCMP responded to a collision between a semi-trailer unit and a pickup truck on the bridge crossing over the Bow River along Highway 36 near the Community of Scandia. The tanker, which was not loaded, leaked diesel fuel from its fuel tanks into the Bow River. 

The clean up of the spill is causing increased delays as members of the area Fire Departments are blocking the river flow with booms. 

One fatality is reported from the two vehicle collision.  Stars Air Ambulance had been dispatched.  A second person was transported to hospital with minor non-life threatening injuries.
As the collision investigation is in its preliminary stages no other details are known about the cause at this time. 

Environmental Services have been advised of the leak into the Bow River and worked with emergency personnel to secure the leaking substance. It is unknown how many litres of diesel have leaked into the river.
hour bridge contractors remain inspecting the damages to the bridge.  Emergency services personnel including, Hazardous Materials, Fire Services and the Collision Analyst have cleared from the scene.  It is estimated that the corridor over the Bow River along Hwy 36 near Range Road 160 reopened after 5:00 pm Saturday.
