Frontier Days' heavy horse competition results

The heavy horse competition at the 2018 Frontier Days in Swift Current gave spectators an opportunity to witness the grace, agility and strength of these gentle giants while they performed various tasks.

 

The competition took place at the Magnus Newland Arena at Kinetic Exhibition Park, June 28 and 29. The events during the two days included different timed events to test the skills of the horses and drivers as well as driving events in different hitch classes.
Below are the winners for the different events at the Frontier Days heavy horse competition (with names of driver and the horse team):
Chore events: Chore team – Chris Bertram, Bell and Jess; Gambler's choice – Prairie Percherons, JC and Magnum; Farm chunk team – Chris Bertram, Bell and Jess; Farm chunk – Sanguine Clydes, Ace; Feed scurry – Marty Bertram, Sugar and Spice; Log dragging – tie between Chris Bertram and Marty Bertram.
Driving and other events: Driver 18 years and under – Sanguine Clydes, Ace; Ladies team driving – Prairie Percherons, Jinx and Apollo; Open cart – Sanguine Clydes, Ace; Ladies cart – Sanguine Clydes, Abe; Tandem hitch – Sanguine Clydes, Abe and Ace; Unicorn hitch – Sanguine Clydes – Abe, Ace and Ed; Four-horse hitch – Sanguine Clydes, Abe, Ace, Ed and Mike; Four-horse driving competition – Sanguine Clydes, Abe, Ace, Ed and Mike; Light draft – Sanguine Clydes, Bill and Ed; Light draft gelding or grade mare – Sanguine Clydes, Bill; Heavy draft gelding or mare – Sanguine Clydes, Duke; Registered broodmare, female – Alice Hattum, Tammi; Heavy draft yield mare or gelding – Prairie Percherons, Apollo; Grand champion halter, all breeds – Sanguine Clydes, Bill; Grand champion hitch – Sanguine Clydes; Stall winner – Prairie Percherons.
