Swift Current Sonic hosts U14 C provincial softball championship, July 6-8, 2018

The Swift Current Sonic hosted the 2018 Softball Saskatchewan U14 C Girls provincial championship, July 6-8. Twelve teams participated in the championship, and the top two teams in each pool advanced to the championship round on the third day of the event. The Swift Current Sonic won two of three round robin games, starting with a 12-1 victory against the Shellbrook Parkland Predators, July 6. The Sonic played two games on Saturday, winning 15-14 against the Kindersley Royals and then losing 16-10 to the Redvers Red Sox. The Kindersley and Redvers teams also finished the round robin with a 2-1 record, but the Sonic was eliminated based on run differential. Another southwest Saskatchewan team, the Leader Pats, finished third in their pool with one win and two losses. The Pats lost 7-6 against the Macklin Lakers on Friday, and lost their next game on Saturday morning 10-3 against the Kipling Royals. The Pats concluded the championship on Saturday afternoon with a 12-2 victory against the Melville Mills. The Turtleford Tigers won the championship round on Sunday. The Redvers Red Sox finished second and the Estevan Elite won bronze.
