A party for Saskatchewan’s libraries took place on Market Square in downtown Swift Current, April 29. The event was organized by the Friends of the Swift Current Branch Library to celebrate the recent decision by the provincial government to restore library funding to 2016 levels. The government’s decision came after thousands of people took part in rallies to raise their concerns over a dramatic cut in funding to libraries in the 2017-18 provincial budget. The celebration in Swift Current included musical entertainment by local musicians and a number of speakers talked about the importance of public libraries. The event concluded with a parade from Market Square to the Swift Current Branch Library, where people enjoyed refreshments.
