Saskatoon-area writer, Dave Margoshes, is to be featured at the Lyric Theatre on Wednesday, March 21.

After a 20 year career as a journalist in the US and Canada, Margoshes moved to Saskatchewan in 1986 and began full-time writing on his own.
Some of his stories and poems spring from his days as a journalist when he covered everything from politics to murder to cat shows, and once ghost-wrote a column for actress Jayne Mansfield.
Among his works are three novels, five volumes of poetry, several books of short stories, a biography of Tommy Douglas, and numerous contributions to magazines and anthologies.
A critique from Amazon Books says, “Like a small boy fascinated with bugs and frogs, Margoshes, a journeyman story-writer, holds his characters up to the light and lets them squirm.”
Margoshes has won numerous awards including the City of Regina Writing Award, the Saskatchewan Book of the Year Award for Bix’s Trumpet and Other Stories, the Anne Szumigalski Poetry Prize, the John V. Hicks Award for Fiction, and the Stephen Leacock Prize for Poetry. He occasionally teaches first-year English, Creative Writing, and Journalism at the University of Regina.
His most recent short story collection, God Telling a Joke and Other Stories, is another entertaining compilation that pulses with details of everyday life. Scheduled for release this spring is his latest book of poetry, A Calendar of Reckoning.
Write Out Loud commences March 21 at Swift Current’s Lyric Theatre. Admission is $8. Doors open at 6:30.
