The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Swift Current branch recently received a generous donation from the Durward Seafoot estate.

A portion of the donation was used to purchase a new 2017 Ford Transit passenger wagon. The new vehicle will make it easier for members to attend activities in the Swift Current area and open opportunities for travel to areas outside the city and around the province.

The remainder of the donation will be added to the fund that will finance a new facility for CMHA in Swift Current.

CMHA provides a cold breakfast and hot lunch program as well as a number of social, recreational and educational programs. Durward (Dirk) Seafoot was born in 1917 on a farm south of Webb, Saskatchewan. He farmed for over 70 years, with the exception of a few years spent during the depression working in eastern Canada and serving in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the Aleutian Islands during the Second World War.

He passed away at the age of 92. He was a hardworking man with simple needs who left the majority of his estate to be donated to charity. These charities include Southwest Homes, Royal University Hospital, CMHA, Southwest Crisis Services, Nature Conservancy of Canada, Prostate Cancer Fight Foundation, Autumn House Independent Living Facility, Salvation Army, and Southwest Cultural Development Group (Lyric Theatre).
