Hailing from a dairy farm in northern Saskatchewan, 20-year-old hip-swinger-folk-singer Ellen Froese is not Joan Baez or a sheep, but her vibrato may tell otherwise. Froese draws primary musical influence from folksters such as Pete Seeger, Leonard Cohen, and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott, but doesn’t forget a pinch of anything from Bowie to Buddy to Bruce. Whether performing a traditional tune or a freshly-penned original, Froese never fails to captivate a crowd with her raw honesty and striking originality.
After releasing two albums and touring extensively (including appearances at Merlefest and IBMA) with her trio of old-time toe tappers, In With the Old, she released her first solo album, Get On With the Blues in December of 2015. In March of 2016, she embarked on her first solo tour across Eastern Canada.
Plans are in the works for the 2017 release of her second album, Ellen Froese.
